3. Mastering the Art of Influence
A leader can be visible in so many ways. Today’s episode will be focused on one of the key ways to leverage influence and to build it. Visibility can be gained as the person who has influence, but a person can build their influence by meeting with influencers.
The definition of influence
Social media, people, places, advertisements find ways to influence every day.
Why is it important to create influential relationships and what prevents us from building them?
How do you find influencers in your company?
Building relationships external to your company is necessary too.
What are the characteristics of a good influencer?
Planning for a Successful Influencing Conversation.
What type of influencing approach will you take?
What does influence have to do with visibility?
Rise Up and Be Visible Quick Tips –
Identify the influencers in your organization, reach out to them to introduce yourself and set up time to meet with them
Pay attention to the people who influence you. What can you learn from them to help you grow?
Take action – plan out the conversation and outcomes that you want
Focus on adding value multiple times before you ask them for help
Continue to build out your internal and external networks so you have them if you need them.
Introverts can build their influence and visibility through one on one conversations with influencers.

Episode 1 TVF – Introducing The Visibility Factor
I am so excited to bring you the very first episode of The Visibility Factor Podcast! In today’s episode, I wanted to share more info with you on what you can expect on the podcast, my journey with visibility, a little bit about my career and also some of my top lessons learned. Let’s get started!
My visibility journey has been a bit of a roller coaster. I share some of my experience at Kraft Heinz and how that impacted my leadership and business knowledge. I had my challenges, but learned from those situations. I had to learn how to be visible in my own authentic way. That visibility journey has helped me in so many ways as a coach now for my clients.
This podcast has been a dream for about 6 years and now it is happening! I have guested on many wonderful shows, but I always wanted to do my own. I have learned as a coach that every conversation is about building trust with another person. I want to do that same thing here. Connecting with you the listener and helping you learn about your own leadership and visibility.
Why have a podcast?
I have great conversations with leaders, coaches and entrepreneurs each day. I hear about their business challenges, their opportunities and we celebrate their wins. There are so many great people doing great things.I thought it would be great to share some of these great conversations with you. I have learned so many great things from mentors, managers and coaches. I wanted to create episodes that would help you learn too.
I will have solo episodes on various topics related to leadership, authenticity, mindset, confidence, visibility, entrepreneurship, impostor syndrome, coaching and many other topics. I look forward to hearing from you and get your input on topics that you would like to hear me and my guests discuss. You can email me at hello@susanmbarber.comwith your thoughts and feedback!
There will also be special episodes where I will coach leaders and share case studies with you – will help you see how a very short time period with a coach can make a big impact.
Each episode will end with a visibility tip that you can apply to your leadership.
Think of me as a virtual coach. My pledge is to deliver value on every episode and share additional resources to help you. To me it is no different than helping my clients learn, grow and gain new perspective. Today’s tips:
Take advantage of opportunities that are in front of you.
Prepare and develop yourself to be ready for whatever opportunity happens.
Think about the words that you say about yourself before you say them. How do you describe yourself, your team and your work? Do those words support the kind of leader that you want to be or not?
In episode 2 you will hear more about my four year journey to write The Visibility Factor book! Every author’s path is different, but even though mine took longer, the reader is going to benefit by having a better book to help them navigate their visibility! Tune into hear more!
