53. What is a Personal Brand?
Thursday Mar 09, 2023

53. What is a Personal Brand?
Today we are going to talk about your personal brand. Are you paying attention to your personal brand? Some people may refer to a personal brand as your image. If you aren't familiar with the term, here is a great definition from Laura Morgan Roberts in an article titled, Creating a Positive Professional Image. She was quoted to say, "Your professional image is the set of qualities and characteristics that represent perceptions of your competence and character as judged by key constituents (i.e. clients, colleagues, superiors, subordinates)." You will see that at times, the words personal brand and image are used interchangeably.
In this episode:
Words are the first way (other than appearance) that tells people what we think of ourselves. Do we come across as confident? Tentative, direct/indirect, shy, or do we devalue ourselves?
What does a personal brand allow you to do?
Tell your story.
People want to connect with people, not companies.
Personal branding helps you show others what makes you tick by highlighting your personality, opinions, work, skills, and style.
In the same article above, Laura Morgan Roberts also stated, "if you aren't managing your own professional image, others are." Would you rather let others dictate what they think your image is or would you like to control that narrative yourself?
How your personal brand can be like your savings account that you need to leverage.
All the things that can be impacted by your personal brand.
You can change your personal brand whenever you are ready.
Creating your own personal brand statement.

51. Can Resistance Be a Good Thing?
Welcome to episode number 51 where we are going to talk about resistance. Are you someone who sees change as a good thing? I think it depends on the experiences that you have had with change. If the change experiences that you had were good and brought you new opportunities, you would probably view it in a positive way. However, if the situations that you went through with change did not go well, then you might feel a lot of resistance and wish it wasn’t happening. What do you do when that resistance shows up? Does it hold you back from doing anything or could you see it as an opportunity to look at the situation with a new perspective?
In this episode:
Sharing my experience with resistance when making the decision about leaving Kraft Heinz.
Shared info about the book, War of Art by Steven Pressfield, which is focused on resistance when it comes to creativity. Those principles that he shares cross into multiple areas of your career and your life.
Building more self-trust and listen to yourself.
When you have that feeling inside of you that something isn’t right, pay attention to those feelings. They are sending you a message that you may need to pause or say no.
When I paused a program that didn’t feel right, better opportunities showed up for me. What if that could be true for you too?
When you are feeling resistance, what can you do to move past it?
